Periodicity and duration of Audit:

These have been prescribed as under-

Slab of annual total duty payment (in cash + CENVAT Credit)	Frequency of Audit	Duration of Audit (From desk review to preparation of Audit results)
Above RS 3 crores	Every year	7 working days
Between RS 1 crore and Rs 3 crore	Once every 2 years	7 working days
Between RS 50 lakhs and Rs 1 crore	Once every 5 years	7 working days
Less than Rs 50lakhs	10% of the units every year	5 working days

 

Procedure for Excise Audit 2000: i) Selection of Assessee ; ii) Preliminary Desk Review; iii) Documentation of information; iv) Touring/Visit of the premises; v) Preparation of audit plan ; vi) Verification of records ; vii) Audit Objection and Audit Para; viii) Audit report.
