PROVISIONS OF FREE ALLOWANCES GIVEN UNDER BAGGAGE RULES 1998 IN CASE OF “UNACCOMPANIED BAGGAGE”:

As per Rule 9 , the provisions of free allowance given under Baggage Rules ,1988 shall also be applicable to “UNACCOMPANIED  BAGGAGE” if ,–

(i ) the unaccompanied baggage had been in possession abroad of passenger and is dispatched within 1 month of his arrival in India or within the further period allowed by Assistant Commissioner or deputy Commissioner; or

  1. ii) the unaccompanied baggage lands in India, upto 2 months before the arrival of the passenger or within such period, not exceeding one year, as the Assistant / deputy Commissioner may allow, for reasons to be recorded, if he is satisfied that the passenger was prevented from arriving in India within the period of two months due to circumstances beyond his control such as,-
  • Sudden illness of the passenger or the member of his family or
  • Natural calamities or disturbed conditions or
  • Disruption of the transport or travel arrangements in the countries concerned or
  • any other reasons which necessitated a change in the travel schedule of the passenger
