Articles that are allowed free of duty under Baggage Rules, 1988 to resident Indian coming from foreign countries other than Nepal, Bhutan ,China and Myanmar :

As per Rule3 in case of an Indian resident or a foreigner residing in India returning from any country other than Nepal, Bhutan ,China and Myanmar , the following articles shall be allowed free of duty in the baggage –

(a ) Personal effects : Used personal effects ,excluding jewellery, required for satisfying daily necessities of life, and

(b ) Other Articles : Articles other than those mentioned in Annexure I carried on the person or in the accompanied baggage of the passenger up to a value mentioned below-

Duration of stay abroad Age of Passenger is up to 10 years Age of Passenger is  10 years or above
3 days or less Rs.3000 Rs.17500
More than 3 days Rs.17500 Rs.45000

 

Notes-:

  1. Resident: Resident means a person holding a valid passport issued under the Passport Act,1967 and normally residing in India
  2. The General free allowance under this rule shall not be allowed to be pooled with the free allowance of any other passenger like a Husband and his wife will be separately allowed the general free allowance.
