Provisions of customs Act, 1962 wrt clearance of goods for home consumption (Section 47) :

  1. Order permitting clearance of goods for home consumption : Where the proper officer is satisfied that – any goods entered for home consumption are not prohibited goods and the importer has paid the import duty, if any, accessed thereon and any charges payable under this act in respect of the same , then the proper officer may make an order permitting clearance of goods for home consumption
  2. Payment of duty electronically: The CG may , by notification specify the class of importers who shall pay duty electronically , namely –
  • Importers registered under Accredited clients programme
  • Importers paying custom duty of Rs 1 lakh or more per bill of entry
  1. Interest @15% on delayed payment of duty : Where –
  • The importer has to pay the import duty under this section within two days excluding holidays ,
  • From the date on which the bill of entry is returned to him for payment of duty

he shall be liable to pay interest @15%per annum on such duty till the date of payment of the said duty
